Non
Stop Bhangra feat Dave Sharma, J Boogie, Jimmy Love
& DJ Amar
Saturday,
June 20th - Rickshaw

As we tip toe into another San Francisco
summer, Non Stop Bhangra brings the heat. Loading up
on talent from all over North America, NSB brings the
best the US has to offer in banging Indian beats to
the Rickshaw Stop. All the way from NYC's famous Sub
Swara crew is Dave Sharma, who has rocked everything
from Basement Bhangra to a live tour with Moby playing
drums. Sharma is a regular feature on BBC's Asian Network
and returns to NSB for his first appearance in almost
2 years. Joining the crew this month will also be J
Boogie (OM Records) of Dubtronic Science, the recent
Best DJ in SF thanks to the good guys over at the SF
Weekly. If that is not already an instant party, the
full Non Stop Bhangra Collective will be in the house
including the return of a very special guest MC from
the Living Legends - Aesop! Come early for the Bhangra
dance lesson and live NSB Collective set, and stay late
for endless Bhangra beats.

SURYA DUB PODCAST #2
J.Rogers Live @ Acid Totem, 4-18-09
J.Rogers brings together a wealth of musical experience and styles with his unique sound. As a graduate of music studies in composition, conducting, and piano with a life-long obsession for the production and performance of electronic/dance music, he injects a strong grasp of advanced musical technique into his diverse sets of dubstep, minimal/techno, tech house, and everything in between. His recent Ableton sets feature rapid-fire transitioning, layering, and sample-dropping across a wide-ranging assortment of sounds. J.Rogers' productions are no different as he releases track after track of genre-bending originals and remixes, supported by the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs, Dubfire, Headhunter, Laurent Garnier, DZ, Stacey Pullen, XI, Paco Osuna, and many more. He stays busy as a member of the Surya Dub crew, co-founder of San Francisco's Blipswitch.net online community, and labelhead of the Blipswitch Digital record label. One to watch out for in the years to come.

Surya
Dub wins 2008 SF Bay Guardian
Best of the Bay for
Best Ambassadors of Dread Bass
The Surya Dub crew continue to pave the way for new
styles and sounds and along the way get a newly created
section in the BoB.. Super thanks to our fans and supporters
round the world for this! Here's what the Guardian says...
BEST
AMBASSADORS OF DREAD BASS
"That
cracked and funky dubstep sound surged through Clubland's
speakers last year, an irresistible combination of breakbeats
energy, dub wooziness, sly grime, intel glitch, and
ragga relaxation. Many parties took the sound into uncharted
waters, infusing it with hip-hop hooks, Bollywood extravaganza,
roots rock swing, or "world music" folksiness.
But only one included all those variations simultaneously,
while pumping local and international live acts, fierce
visuals, multimedia blowouts, and an ever-smiling crowd
of rainbow-flavored fans: Surya Dub, a monthly lowdown
hoedown at Club Six. The Surya crew, including perennial
Bay favorites DJ Maneesh the Twister and Jimmy Love,
and wondrous up-and-comers like Kush Arora, Kid Kameleon,
DJ Amar, Ripley, and MC Daddy Frank on the mic, describes
its ass-thumping sound as "dread bass," which
moves beyond wordy genre description into a cosmic territory
the rumble in your eardrums can surely attest to. Surya
Dub keeps it in the community, too, helping to promote
a growing network of citywide dubstep events and spreading
their dread bass gospel with parties in India." |
